What is virgin fuel oil?
Bunker fuel or bunker crude is technically any type of fuel oil used aboard vessels. Named from the tanks on ships and in ports that it is stored in; they are bunker fuel tanks.
What is No 6 fuel oil?
No. 6 fuel oil includes Bunker C fuel oil and is used for the production of electric power, space heating, vessel bunkering, and various industrial purposes.
Is distillate fuel oil the same as diesel?
1 Distillate: A light petroleum distillate that can be used as either a diesel fuel (see No. 1 Diesel Fuel) or a fuel oil.
What is the difference between #1 and #2 fuel oil?
1 fuel oil is like a heavier version of kerosene. This means it has a higher boiling point, is more viscous and is less refined than kerosene. In comparison with No. 2 fuel oil, it is a bit lighter.
What are the 3 types of fuel?
There are three types of fossil fuels which can all be used for energy provision; coal, oil and natural gas.
What is #2 fuel oil?
Number 2 fuel oil is a distillate home heating oil. Trucks and some cars use similar diesel no. 2 with a cetane number limit describing the ignition quality of the fuel. Both are typically obtained from the light gas oil cut.
Is diesel a gas oil?
Is gas oil the same as diesel? In simple terms, yes gas oil and regular diesel (DERV) are virtually the same fuel, except gas oil is strictly prohibited and is only to be used in off-road vehicles.
Can I use fuel oil in my diesel tractor?
Heating oil is not refined or intended for use as vehicle fuel; when used in your tractor it may smoke or contain contaminants not usually found in diesel fuel.
Can you mix heating oil with diesel?
Can I mix diesel with heating oil? If you run out of heating oil for your home’s furnace at some point and you have diesel or you’re close to a gas station, you can use diesel fuel in your oil tank. The reason this is ok is that heating oil is essentially the same as diesel fuel.
Is kerosene the same as #2 heating oil?
Just like gasoline, diesel fuel, and jet fuel, these oil products start out as crude oil. Heating oil and kerosene undergo a similar refinement process after distillation, but kerosene is refined further, which makes it have slightly different properties than heating oil.
How many grades of fuel oil are there?
Both residual and distillate fuel oils are liquid fuels derived from petroleum. In the United States there are six grades of fuel oil, numbered 1 through 6. The lower the number, the lighter the fuel is, with lower boiling point, viscosity and energy content per gallon.
What is No 2 diesel?
No. 2 diesel fuel that has a sulfur level no higher than 15 ppm. It is used primarily in motor vehicle diesel engines for on-highway use. A distillate fuel oil that has a distillation temperature of 640 degrees Fahrenheit at the 90-percent recovery point and meets the specifications defined in ASTM Specification D 396.
